Nominations are now open for the 11th ISGAN Awards of Excellence, sponsored by the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN), in partnership with the Global Smart Energy Federation (GSEF).
As the global community strives for carbon neutrality, electricity grids are under increasing pressure. Much of our existing infrastructure was never designed for the high levels of renewable energy now being deployed, and operators face tough challenges balancing variable supply, ensuring reliability, and adhering to diverse regulatory standards.
In response, modern solutions have emerged to transform grid operations. Smart grids leverage advanced communication and automation systems, enabling dynamic, real-time coordination between utilities and consumers. Meanwhile, predictive analytics and digital tools help operators anticipate fluctuations in energy demand and supply, allowing them to stabilise the system proactively.
Flexible resources like Power-to-X (P2X) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) further strengthen grid performance by storing surplus renewable energy in alternative carriers or electric vehicles, ready to be used when needed most. Large-scale storage systems, such as batteries and pumped hydro, also play a vital role by capturing excess power during peak production and releasing it during high-demand periods.
Thus, ISGAN and GSEF have chosen “Excellence in Solutions for Enhanced Grid Operation” as the 2025 ISGAN Award of Excellence theme, highlighting these pioneering strategies. By showcasing forward-thinking projects that bolster grid reliability and resilience, the award seeks to inspire collaborative efforts and accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and secure energy future.
